- Bridges for Media Freedom’s Italian project hosts interview with Anthony Bellanger, General Secretary of the IFJ. The “Freedom of Information and Human Rights” project is being run in collaboration with Filosofia in Movimento, an association of scholars in the field of philosophy, law and social sciences.
- Blueprint for Free Speech launches pardon campaign for Assange. The campaign will seek a pardon from both sides of the political aisle in the United States – the administrations of the President and the President-elect.
- Ahead of Julian Assange’s US Extradition Hearing, Doctors’ Letter Published in The Lancet. A letter by a group of doctors representing 117 physicians and psychologists from 18 nations calls for an end to the psychological torture and medical neglect of Julian Assange.
- Germany: Former Federal Ministers demand the release of Julian Assange. More than 130 prominent figures in politics, culture and the media in Germany are demanding the release of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange from British custody.
- Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly calls for Assange’s “prompt release.” Amendment to report on Threats to Media Freedom and Journalists’ Security in Europe prepared by Labour peer Lord Foulkes adopted unanimously.
- Assange extradition: Both sides ask for more time to deal with “great volume of evidence.” Extradition hearing will be bifurcated with a first week of hearings to start on 24 February 2020 and a further three weeks to follow from 18 May.
- 25 Parliamentarians to monitor Julian Assange extradition hearing in February. Full extradition hearing to start on 24 February 2020, spanning “three or four weeks.” Elected representatives from Germany, Italy and the European Parliament will travel to London as official observers.
